I have an Eve story though with no punchline. I’ve got to hang out with her at Paul Ruscha’s house in the valley. We laid out by the pool, naked. Me being from Cal Arts made it seem normal. The pool was painted black and had an Ed Ruscha painting at the bottom. At the time, I didn’t know I was hanging out with royalty.

When Eve states that Wallace's wife is a dyke, perhaps it was wishful thinking on her part.

Love the anecdote about Eve's take on your mom. Only you could be so objective and curious contemplating such a big possible paradigm shift. "No biggy just something to ponder." You are the most naturally sweetly funny person Tosh 😀

Somehow missed that this was out. Excellent write-up. How funny that she had such an incorrect reading of your mom. Anyway, I'll have to pick up a copy this week.

Great piece, Tosh. Having read her "Slow days, Fast Company" not long ago, I've come to appreciate what a skilled chronicler of the times she truly was. I always seen Babitz as a kind of punk vixen; an oddball mix of Didion, Edie Sedgwick and Kay Thompson's Eloise. Smart, funny, and insouciantly snide, she remains eminently readable.

Bit of a shame you were too much of a proper young gent to act on that vibe she was throwing you at the party; I probably would've ended the night humping her leg like an affectionate terrier.

I’m a big Eve Babitz fan! Thanks Tosh!

I didn't know this existed, thanks for the tip!
