I think the Marriage of Maria Braun was the first Fassbinder film I saw. My mother and I went to the Richmond district in SF to see it. We were both blown away. After that, I saw many of his films. I even met one of his actresses at UES, the lab school at UCLA. She had adopted a young Latina girl and mentioned giving her back. I couldn't believe my ears, and said I didn't think she should do that. But in retrospect, it seems like it could have been a plot point in one of his movies.
