As a 72 year old with a 69 year old wife, I appreciate the loss of vigor and confidence in old age. But there are many things that us old people can still do.The Del Webb fantasy was always simply a marketing technique, as are so many senior corporate enterprises. I recommend just aging in place-don't move away from the place you built your life.
As someone who experienced severe acid reflux years ago, I relate to your situation. The lack of GERD writing is due the fact that it lacks a mobilization factor the way the cancer and AIDS developed. I can’t imagine thousands rallying around a GERD quilt on the National Mall. GERD is in need of a unifying metaphor (see Sontag’s writings along this line). You have your work cut out for you on multiple fronts.
I saw you posting on DC blog about this. I had gastroenterologist scope me out and prescribe Protonix. Works great. For over the counter try Gaviscon. Also very effective. (I"ll spare you my GERD details.)
sorry to hear about your condition Tosh.. I also have a condition that restricts me to weekly visits to a clinic where I need to have my blood tested.. we all have our issues and one of my symptoms is I have no appetite.. probably from one of the injections they give me.. some might say that is a blessing but its actually a curse because diet and eating becomes a full time job when you get to our age.. I've decided that there is no plural golden year.. we all have one year at the top of the bell curve of life and then it is downhill....
My grandma (and certainly others) used to say "old age ain't for sissies." I know she was right. I was diagnosed in 2020, while hospitalized with Covid, with diabetes. Talk about dietary restrictions! Sheesh! And I'm not even going to more than mention the neuropathy in my feet! No, for some of us, getting older just sucks
Dude my boyfriend is a nurse with GERD and he just takes Prilosec. I just take Rolaids.

being alive is so much better than being dead

I’m taking Protonix now. Thank you for the info on Gaviscon. And another writer who has GERD!

I am sorry to hear that Jeff. I have come to the conclusion that these health issues come with the aging. Hopefully, both of us, can get better.

Old age is not for sissies, for sure! One never knows what is around the corner.
