I went there for the first time in 2017 and was staying west of Shibuya in Setagaya, not far from Shimokitazawa. I caught a 10 minute bus ride to Shibuya station which was my launching point. When I went back in 2023, just after Covid, I was staying near Shinjuku and they had pretty much demolished the old bus station. For the life of me I could not get my bearings correct and the 'scramble' became a complete head scramble!
I know that feeling well. I visit Tokyo every year and the last five years Shibuya has gone through major changes. Like the Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo doesn’t look back. They just go onward.
I wish one day you'll take me across there
Wonderful essay, Tosh.
Perfect!
