Thank you Tosh for pointing me to this, it is a rich find. Where did you get the subtitle (Sacred Bones)? It makes me think of the archetypal stage of feminine self discovery when deep roots and structures are uncovered. These can then be used to fully express the sense of life force and wisdom-to-come. There is an album by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs called 'Show Your Bones' in which the singer seems to become fully to womanhood. I listened to that again recently and I wonder if it wasn't Spellling who subtly suggested it?
Sacred Bones is a Brooklyn located record label. I don't know too much about the label. A friend of mine who does know the label thinks it's odd that they have Spellling on their label. I need to check this out more. Thank you Elspeth.
Great review Tosh. I’ve listened “The Turning Wheel” several times over the last week; it’s quite the artist achievement. I really love the orchestration and the touches of electronica. As you described, I definitely hear the Kate Bush, Prince, Van Dyke Parks influences, but she seems to have bended them into her own wholly unique sound. Very enjoyable modern soul art music.
i'm glad that it is not just me here that thinks that! There is very little information about her background, except she made two other albums, which are more electronic based. She is very much a mystery to me. And the interviews I have read, keeps that mystery in tact.

A new adventure Jack!
